Smile Studio is a general practice as well as a cosmetic one. Toothaches, broken teeth, lost fillings and swollen gums come through the same door as cleanings and veneers. Message us or call, say it hurts, and we’ll give you the first opening we have.

Say it’s tooth pain. That’s enough to find you a time. The details can wait for the chair, so there’s no need to send a history over WhatsApp.

Dr. Doyle Avellanet examines the tooth and takes digital X-rays to see what’s actually behind the pain. It isn’t always the tooth you’d point to.
Decide with the facts
You hear what it needs and what it costs before anything starts. If it can wait, you’ll hear that too.
Until your visit
A few things help. One doesn’t.
None of these fixes the tooth. They make the wait easier.
- Rinse with warm salt water.
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as the label directs, if it’s one you can safely take.
- Hold a cold compress against the outside of your cheek.
- Chew on the other side, and skip anything very hot, cold or sweet.
- If a piece of tooth broke off, keep it and bring it with you.
- Don’t put aspirin or any tablet on the gum beside the tooth. It can burn the gum.
Not a dental visit
Go to an emergency room, or call 911, if:
These can mean an infection or an injury that needs a hospital first. The tooth gets treated once you’re safe.
- Swelling is spreading toward your eye, down your neck or under your tongue
- You have trouble swallowing or breathing
- You have a fever along with a swollen face
- A blow to the face has hurt your jaw, or bleeding won’t stop with pressure
